The Life of a Minor-Leaguer Continued… Rivera Traded to Diamondbacks.

By: Zach Reger

Just one day after writing about Emmanuel Rivera and his success with both the Storm Chasers and the Royals this year, he was traded.

Anything can happen around the trade deadline, and earlier today, Rivera was traded to the Diamondbacks organization in exchange for RHP Luke Weaver.

Weaver appears to be heading directly to the Royals 40-man roster. He has battled injuries throughout his career, and while healthy, he has not produced as many thought he would as a prospect.

Weaver has a 7.71 ERA and a 1-1 record. He was in the Diamondbacks starting rotation until this season when Arizona moved him into the bullpen.

It appears Rivera will get to remain in the Majors after a short two-game stint. Rivera figures to back up Josh Rojas at the hot corner, but Rojas can play multiple positions, giving Rivera a shot at regular playing time at third base.

With Rivera’s contract, the Diamondbacks will still be able to option the 26-year-old to their AAA team, the Reno Aces, until the end of this season.

As a minor-league baseball player, you never know if you will be called up or down or traded, especially in August. For Emmanuel Rivera, he experienced all three in a matter of days.

The trade deadline is tomorrow, and the Royals have already made two trades. Will they trade away some of their bigger pieces to bolster their farm system? Storm Chasers fans are eagerly waiting.
