Storm Chasers Hit Two Home Runs off Jacob deGrom

By: Zach Reger

SYRACUSE, Ny – The two-time Cy Young winner, Jacob deGrom took the mound for the Syracuse Mets (42-53) in a rehab start yesterday. This was hopeful to be his last rehab start before returning to the majors.

The Storm Chasers (48-46) did their best to ensure that deGrom’s stint in AAA had a few blemishes.

deGrom started the game strong, as he struck out two batters in the first inning. One of which was 7x All-Star, Salvador Perez, who is also serving a rehab assignment for the Royals.

In the second inning, however, left fielder Brewer Hicklen led off with a solo home run.

The Storm Chasers’ offense was not finished after that, though. deGrom walked the next two batters, then showed some life on the mound by striking out Omaha’s next two batters.

Then recently-acquired Drew Waters stepped up to the plate. deGrom let go of the pitch, and Waters took the ball for a ride over the left-centerfield fence. This three-run shot made the score 4-0 in favor of the Storm Chasers in only the second inning.

deGrom pitched four innings in this game allowing those four earned runs. The two home runs were the only two hits that deGrom allowed, and he walked three total batters. He also struck out six in those four innings pitched.

The game ended with a score of 10-4 as the Storm Chasers took down the Syracuse Mets in game two of a six-game series.
