Maikel Garcia Records His First Hit as a Storm Chaser

By: Zach Reger

Recently sent down shortstop Maikel Garcia got his first Triple-A hit last night.

The Storm Chasers fell 5-0 to the St. Paul Saints, the Twins Triple-A affiliate, yesterday. In the sixth inning, however, Garcia made his presence felt in his first game in an Omaha uniform.

Garcia finished the game going 1-4 with this single. The 22-year-old hit second in the batting order last night.

This first hit is already a great accomplishment for Garcia to achieve, however, this first hit is not like many others. Garcia has already spent time with the Kansas City Royals. In fact, just a few days ago, he recorded his first Major-League hit.

Getting your first MLB hit before your first Triple-A hit does not happen every day, but that is something Garcia will get to talk about his entire career.

Garcia was first recalled from Double-A Northwest Arkansas on July 14. After just four days with the Royals, he was optioned back to Northwest Arkansas. 10 days later, Garcia was back with Kansas City, and one day after that, he got his first major-league hit.

Given his performance with the Royals, he looks like he will be making Omaha his new home for the time being. There is a lot to be excited about with this young prospect as he continues to accomplish more firsts in a Storm Chasers uniform.

P.S. Garcia already homered today; his first with Omaha.
